Omega 3s—maybe not all they were advertised to be

I’m always amused when some obscure thing suddenly gets touted as the next superfood, some products that will cure all our health ills just by us eating more of it. Omega 3 fatty acids, found in fattier fish like salmon, have been in that category for some time, so much so that supplements just containing omega 3s are widely available now.

But not so fast, a new study says omega 3 supplement consumption could cause prostate cancer in men. Shocking news for anyone who has sworn by these in recent years.

Hold the tuna, omega 3s might have some problems attached.

“Scientists have now also found a link between fish oil supplements, childhood allergies, and prostate cancer, according to a study from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute and another study from the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden published in the journal PLOS ONE,” reports everydayhealth.com.

It’s just another example to me that nutritionists are still guessing more than knowing what’s best for us to eat. Be cautious of anything anyone claims will produce miracles for you.
