One of the most popular posts on this blog is a piece I wrote about how to make a Costco food court salad healthier by not using the dressing and eliminating even more salt by taking off the cheese as well. I’ve also written about how to shop smarter at warehouse club stores like Costco.

So I enjoyed coming across this story recently headlined Get the Skinny: The ‘Costco Diet.’ the piece really isn’t about a diet plan, as the headline might suggest. Rather, it lists products available at Costco that are relatively healthy, such as fresh produce and salmon, which I regularly buy there.
Some of the items listed, such as pistachios single-serving packets or a Kirkland Protein Bar, I would never try because I don’t eat nuts and I avoid bars which are usually high in salt content.
The list also include chicken thighs, which are higher in fat than breast meat, so scratch those too.
But overall the piece makes the point that you can find healthy foods at Costco, or any warehouse club for that matter. It all comes down to smart shopping.
