5 Signs You’re Eating Too Much Sugar

Sugar tastes so good! Unfortunately, the more we eat, the less healthy we become. It’s also apparent that many adults don’t actually know how much sugar they’re consuming in a day.

The biggest culprits of sugar addition are fizzy drinks, chocolate and sweets, ice cream and (would you believe it!) fruit juices.

If you’re consuming too much sugar, your body will have some tell-tale signs. If you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms, it may be time for you to cut down on your sugar.


Sugar often tricks us into thinking it’s good for our energy levels. When you eat some candy or have a fizzy drink, you’ll get a rush of adrenaline that allows you to perform at the top of your game.

However, it’s only a temporary high and many people who eat a lot of sugar feel fatigued not long afterwards. That’s because your body comes crashing down after a sugar rush, making you feel worse than you did beforehand.


Eating too much sugar can result in a hormonal imbalance. The hormones that are increased or decreased through consumption of sugar can have a big effect on your skin, causing it to break out in spots.

If you’re finding it difficult to keep your skin clear, try going on a sugar detox for a month and seeing if it makes a difference. If it does, you can be sure that sugar is no good for your particular skin type.


Sugar is no less than an addiction. If you’re finding yourself craving something sweet after a few hours of going without, it could mean that your body has become dependent on sugar. If you choose to cut sugar out of your diet, you may experience headaches and major cravings.

However, once you have made the choice to stop eating as much sugar, you should find that you crave it less and feel more alert and motivated.

Mood Swings

In the same way that sugar affects your energy levels, it also affects your mood. When you come crashing down from a sugar rush, you won’t just feel tired, but you may find yourself being short with others or unable to lift your mood.

Many people believe that they wake up irritable in the morning because it’s a personality trait when in fact, it could be that your body has gone longer than it usually would throughout the day without a dose of sugar.

Weight Gain

It may seem obvious that to lose weight, you need to stay away from fatty foods. Did you know that your supermarket can advertise a bag of sugar as 100% fat-free without any back lash? When sugar is consumed it converts into glucose which can become fat.
