Salt, incredibly high amounts of salt, hides in almost all processed and restaurant foods. That’s why I spend so much time looking at food labels and writing here about low- and no-salt alternatives to salty products. Check my smart shopping page and my ingredients page for those.

But sugar also hides in many foods and these days nutritionists think too much sugar may do as much if not more harm to your body as too much salt does.
So here’s a handy primer to let you know some places you might not have realized that sugar hides. It’s a 234-slide quiz for you, see how you do. The first, ketchup is an easy one. I’ve stopped buying major brands, switching to Localfolks which is low in sugar and salt.
Some may surprise you, like dried cranberries having more sugar than a similar amount of gummy bears!
It’s all a good reminder to read food labels before you buy anything.
